Tesla reportedly to open showroom in Austin
In Texas, Statesman reported that a former H-E-B in Austin, Texas, could potentially become Tesla showroom, according to city and state filings.
A June 12 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, first reported by the Austin Business Journal showed plans to build out and renovate a facility for use by Tesla, at the Center of the Hills shopping center.
Construction is planned to start in December and wrap up in November 2024, according to the filing.
The report highlighted that Tesla does not have dealerships but instead uses showroom-style “galleries” to showcase the company’s vehicles and products and sells its vehicles directly to consumers online.
A number of states including Texas ban direct to consumer sales of vehicles and require dealerships to serve as the middleman. Tesla has lobbied unsuccessfully to change the law in Texas since 2013, the report added.
