Prince William walks the walk with biobased sneakers at Earthshot ceremony
In South Africa, Prince William recognized this year’s Earthshot prize nominees and finalists while sporting a new, more casual and sustainable look. The heir to the throne donned £130 biodegradable sneakers from Purified Footwear, a brand using recycled plastics, organic cotton, and other sustainable materials in its products shoes.
The star-studded ceremony, attended by celebrities such as Heidi Klum, recognized companies such as Ferment’Up, a product by Green Spot Technologies that uses the “magic of fermentation” to transform commercial food waste into nutritious and healthy alternative ingredients, and Coast4C, which connects investment in coastal agriculture with conservation through regenerative seaweed farming.
The Prince of Wales launched the Earthshot Prize in 2020. The prize will hand out £50 million over 10 years to organizations working to address the world’s most persistent environmental problems. Each year, the prize awards five winners £1 million ($1.96 million) each.
