LSU research aims to help Louisiana to embrace solar power

In Louisiana, The Advocate reported that a team of Louisiana State University (LSU) researchers has won a $94,000 grant from the Institute for Energy Innovation to study how Louisiana could expand solar power production in a way that is acceptable to the community. “A big part of our research is to understand and engage how the community would be interested in this kind of work and what their perception is,” said LSU assistant professor Arup Bhattacharya, who leads a team of six researchers that got the grant. “We want to know what is most important to them in terms of solar power generation.” Bhattacharya said Louisiana is particularly suited for solar power. According to the U.S. Energy Information Association, Louisiana is third among all states in energy consumption due to its energy-intensive chemical, petroleum, and natural gas industries, the report stated.
