Korean Muslim Federation rules cultivated meat halal
In South Korea, the Korean Muslim Federation has ruled that cultivated meat is halal if sourced and produced in accordance with halal standards. The move paves the way for Simple Planet to introduce its lab-grown protein powders to cultivated meat producers.
The company raised $7.5 million from private investors and $8 million from a government grant.
“More than a billion people around the world adhere to halal food standards, so for cultivated meat to make the leap from novelty to the norm, it is crucial that there are viable pathways to achieve this certification,” Mirte Gosker, managing director of the Good Food Institute APAC, told Green Queen in 2024.
