Ecopetrol successfully completes first SAF trial
In Colombia, El Colombiano reported that Colombian oil firm Ecopetrol successfully completed the first test of sustainable aviation fuel production at its Cartagena refinery. For seven days, professionals from different areas of the Ecopetrol Group worked on the process, which made it possible to obtain 32,000 barrels of jet fuel with renewable components, according to the report. For this test, Ecopetrol used palm oil and used cooking oil, which were supplied by Ecodiesel and small and medium-sized companies in the country. Now, the new fuel will be subjected to laboratory analysis to confirm that it complies with international standards, the report added. With a view to sustained production starting in 2028, Ecopetrol plans to implement adjustments at the Cartagena refinery, consolidate sources of sustainable raw materials and comply with the necessary certifications, the report said.
