Brazilian firm Omega targets U.S. renewables market ahead of Texas launch

In Brazil, Reuters reported that Brazilian power producer Omega Energia aims to become a major renewable energy player in the United States in the coming years. The firm’s CEO Antonio Bastos said that the firm will enter the US market through a Texas launch planned for later this year. Omega, backed by investors such as British private equity firm Actis LLP, is expected to start selling power later this year in Texas, where it is working on a 265.5-MW wind project. The firm said it aims to trade power through an online platform. The executive said that the company is currently in talks with a large midstream company for the supply of power from the Texas plant. Bastos also said that the company would also look at supplying power to smaller customers.
