ADECA plans to install EVs charging stations near all interstates across Alabama
In Alabama, ABC3340News reported that the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) has already invested $7.2 million into installing 41 charging stations across Alabama. The department will also be receiving $79 million over the next five years to begin installing charging stations near all interstates across Alabama.
The funds come from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program (NEVI), according to the report.
“We are making sure that we have what we consider the appropriate number of charging stations to be able to accommodate those that have [electric vehicles] coming in and out of or evacuating off the coast,” said ADECA director Kenneth Boswell.
Boswell says these fast charging stations cost around $150,000. Businesses, local municipalities, and individual EV owners can apply for a grant from ADECA that would cover 80% of the total cost.
