Florida senator introduces bill to tax EVs

In Florida, Florida’s Voice reported that Senator Ed Hooper, R-Palm Harbor, filed a bill to tax electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

If enacted, the bill would force electric vehicle drivers to pay a $200 licensing tax in addition to the registration that is already required. A $250 licensing tax would be placed on EV drivers beginning Jan. 1, 2029, according to the report.

The 2024 legislative session is set to begin January 8, 2024. If passed, the bill would go into effect on July 1, 2024, the report adds.
