Tesla’s Texas factory reaches production of 5,000 Model Y EVs per week
In Australia, The Driven reported that Tesla’s Austin Gigafactory in Texas has reached a production rate of 5,000 electric vehicles per week.
The Texas facility currently produces Tesla’s Model Y and is expected to start production of the Cybertruck this year with analysts predicting 450,000 units of the all-electric pickup truck by 2027, according to the report.
Last week, Tesla broke ground on construction of its new lithium refinery in Texas. The firm’s CEO Elon Musk said the new facility should produce enough of the battery metal to build about 1 million electric vehicles by 2025.
Musk said Tesla aimed to finish construction of the factory in 2024 and then reach full production about a year later.
