Hyundai begins EV production in its Alabama plant
In Alabama, Made in Alabama reported that Hyundai marked a major milestone at its Alabama plant as the company launched its first Genesis Electrified GV70 SUV. “Hyundai Motor Group has set a clear direction for the organization’s future mobility solutions that includes innovative designs propelled by batteries or hydrogen fuel cells,” said Ernie Kim, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama. The car maker had announced plans to begin EV production in Montgomery in 2022, supported by a $300 million investment that is creating 200 jobs, according to the report. In another related project, supplier Hyundai Mobis is building a $205 million EV battery module plant in Montgomery that is expected to be fully completed in 2025. The facility will provide batteries to the Hyundai auto assembly plant, as well as the Kia auto plant in Georgia, according to the report.
