In Brazil, Agrolink reported that rural association Conab is highlighting an increase in sorghum area in Minas Gerais state.

Conab points to increase in sorghum area in Minas Gerais

According to the 6th Survey of the 2024/25 grain harvest, released by Cobab, the sowing of second-harvest crops in Minas Gerais was hampered by delays in corn planting and the lengthening of the soybean cycle .

The planting window, especially in sandier soils, was compromised by the lack of moisture, further affected by the adverse weather conditions recorded in February. “This scenario created a favorable environment for the continued expansion of sorghum areas in the state,” Conab’s pointed out.

In February, some municipalities in the Triângulo Mineiro region faced a shortage of sorghum seeds, which reinforces the expectation of growth in the area allocated to this crop compared to the previous harvest. The survey revealed that, despite the difficulties at the beginning of sowing, the area sown with sorghum in the current cycle was 5.4% larger than that of the last cycle.
