CO2 pipeline troubles might tank ethanol’s SAF ambitions

In Illinois, Reuters reports that the push to use ethanol as feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuel is being thwarted by the rejection of landowners and local policymakers across the Midwest to permit CO2 pipelines. Department of Energy officials say that ethanol producers must significantly cut CO2 emissions in order to participate in the opportunities provided by inclusion in the SAF supply chain, but without carbon sequestration, current production methods for much of US ethanol fall short of reaching those climate ambitions.
